A well-stocked workout bag is a runner’s best friend.
Running once, twice and sometimes in between daily activities, clearly shows where my priorities are. Run first, hygiene second lol. But over the years I’ve realized it doesn’t have to be this way! Carry a few reliable products in a workout bag and you’ll be good to go, even when you’re on-the-go and don’t have time to shower.
Here are a few of my favorites! They help me freshen up quickly and feel as good as new before stepping back into normal, public life.
1. Dry Shampoo
First thing’s first – unleash the ponytail! Whip that hair around a few times and let your head breathe. I usually just apply two or three spritzes of dry shampoo and brush it through quickly. I still believe in shampooing/conditioning hair every other day, but this is effective in between washes.
I’ve tried several types but I really like this one by Dove. It’s a little lighter and less sticky than other dry shampoos I’ve used in the past.
2. Face Wipes
Look at this color!! I feel so hip.
Face wipes came in clutch after races, workouts and long runs – not to mention, traveling around the country while running an average of 10 miles a day! If there was one thing I always had in my bag throughout my collegiate running career, it was face wipes. You don’t need water like normal face wash and they pack really easy without the risk of spilling over everything.
These charcoal ones are particularly awesome for their color (such a surprise to see black instead of white!) but they also feel slightly grainy and I’m such a sucker for anything that says “purifying.” Big fan of these!
Seriously hoping this pays off in the long run – the long run I have on Saturday AND throughout my life.
This is a pre/post-run skin staple. Runners often forget that being out in the sun day after day isn’t exactly healthy. Even if we can’t see a burn, that doesn’t mean the damage isn’t there. One year ago, I finally gave in and made applying sunscreen before my workouts a habit. Of course, I can’t see the results now, but I feel so responsible and that’s a good feeling!
Neutrogena is the way to go. It’s absorbed into the skin easily, there’s no residue and I don’t feel greasy when I walk out the door. The only Neutrogena sunscreen I avoid is anything labeled “Baby.” Babies don’t care if their sunscreen doesn’t rub in, grown up people do. I learned this the hard way.
Waking up early to do a workout usually makes me feel awake – but do I look awake? Not exactly.
I swipe this under my eyes before applying mascara, and instantly my skin looks a little brighter. I’ve used this same product for over a year now and I carry it with me everywhere. It’s purpose is for dark circles around the eyes, but I’ll occasionally put a little bit on a red blemish if I don’t have time to do the whole makeup routine. It works really well!
If I was stuck on a desert island and could only have one thing….
Sort of kidding haha, but not really. My sister and I received this exact mascara in our stockings two years ago and I haven’t stopped using it since. I go through one of these bottles at least every other month and it converted me from a waterproof-girl to a normal, non-waterproof type of person. Why? It stays on during my runs, comes off clean after my run and takes my eyelashes to the max without that annoying sticky, clumping mess.
Put a Norwegian flag on anything and I’ll be twice as likely to buy it.
Especially if the product relates to the cold! This product is great before a run and after. Just a little bit goes a very long way and fixes all dry patches after a run or ski outside. This will definitely be my go-to purse/workout bag product for these colder months.
Now it’s time to actually apply these products and sprint off to my next activity! Today I’m driving up to Ames, Iowa to watch the ISU cross-country team compete at Regionals and see my sister’s best friend, Elise, at her swim meet. She competes for TCU! Big day of spectating, hopefully I’ll get my run in at some point.
Happy Friday! Talk soon! E
P.S. Big news! My comments are working again so feel free to say hi, put a link to your blog or join the discussion. What beauty products do you use after working out? I would love to know!
